[movies]Metroid - Time Attack by Jeff C. (aka Arc) - Jeff 'Arc' C.
[NB - this video was transferred from the Machinima collection, and uses different rules to the other speeds runs in this collection, including use of emulators and multiple save states.] Another example of the pre-history of machinima - players bragging about their impressive performances to other players. This roughly 17-minute run through the NES's Metroid demonstrates the fastest path through the game. Please note: These speedthroughs were played on an emulator, using game slow-down options a...

[movies]Super Mario World - Xbox emulated run in 0:10:47 - Andrew McKinlay - Andrew McKinlay
Speed run of Super Mario World done on xsnes9x Super Nintendo emulator for Xbox, does not count as official record for SMW. Author's comments: This run was extremely lucky in two areas, 1. That i didn't die by that stupid stump thing in the first castle. 2. That i didn't choke on that lame water level like i always do. I'm never going to play this game ever again, as I officially became a complete loser this summer having played this game waaaaaay too much...

[movies]Umihara Kawase (SNES) - 13:15 (Japan version, emulated run) - Eric Stratmann (aka. Bob Whoops)
This game is about a schoolgirl with a bag of holding and a rubber fishing line setting out to rid the world of giant mutant fish. This video plays the longest path of the game having only two bosses. The boss levels are quite long in this movie - they can't really be sped up, but the author of the movie has done his best to make it worth watching. No frogs were harmed in the making of this movie.

For the fans of the Castlevania series - here's a timeattack of a Castlevania game that is hmm.. much much more aimed to children than the darker themed games. The game was only released in Japan. There was a Game Boy sequel which did get released elsewhere known as Kid Dracula.

Clash at Demonhead is a fun game that is sadly not as well known as it should be. You play as Bang, a special ops agent sent to Mt. Demonhead to rescue Professor Plum and retrieve his Doomsday Bomb. The came is comprised over various 'Routes' which are connected at certain nodes. Each Route is a side-scrolling stage with two exits, which will take you to two other nodes. You progress along the map like that, ando nce you get the Hermit's teleportation ability moving around becomes much faster...

[movies]Kid Chameleon (Genesis) - 14:18 (Any version, emulated run) - A. Berglin (aka. Truncated)
Here it is, Kid Chameleon for the Genesis - probably the game with the most submissions of which none have been published. In retrospect, I can admit that it was fair to reject my previous submission - this one is more than a minute faster. I never expected it could be improved that much. This platformer is generally considered pretty hard. You die easily and often get lost and go in circles because of the ways the levels are set up...

[movies]Hitler no Fukkatsu (NES) - 14:06 (Japan version, emulated run) - Jean-François Durocher (aka. Genisto)
This is a timeattack at ヒットラーの復活 (Resurrection of Hitler - Top Secret), which is the original (Japanese) version of Bionic Commando. This is a platform game with a hero that can't jump. This movie is about 0.5 seconds faster than the previous version -- it merely changes some very minor parts. Note: Hitler no Fukkatsu and Bionic Commando are not the same game. [movies]River City Ransom (NES) - 09:00 (US version, emulated run) - Richard U (aka. Sleepz)
A well done run of River City Ransom, much of the enjoyment comes from seeing the author run as quickly as possible by all the minor gang members, only to reach and completely annihilate the bosses necessary to complete the game. Moral of the story? Beware people carrying trashcans. This movie was played at the "Novice" level.

[movies]Aladdin - 16:54 (US version, emulated run) - Drew Sears (aka. milquetoast).
This is the authors second version of the run which is 14 seconds faster than the first. The majority of improvements come from the log stage and the fight against Jafar. The author also managed to find extra places to avoid swinging and boucning, and took some damage to save time. The run (ab)uses the "parachute trick" to move faster.

[movies]Wrath of the Black Manta (NES) - 10:37 (US version, emulated speedrun) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
In this game you are supposed to hunt down an evil crime syndicate (so what else is new?) by freeing kids from blocks of ice, and capturing the red guys to get clues. Unfortunately the ninja didn't have time for that, he just walks past all baddies and kills the bosses. This syndicate turns out to be selling drugs, but the Black Manta sets them straight: "Drugs kill you think you're cool but you're not." Yeah! This version is 25 seconds faster than the previous version by the same author...

[movies]Cobra Triangle (NES) - 17:55 (US version, emulated speedrun) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
This game is something as unusual as a boat game where you race to the finish, rescue swimmers from being abducted, dispose of bombs, kill big-ass sea monsters and shoot targets. This movie aims for fastest time but makes some deviances from that goal to get more points: for example it saves all the swimmers where just saving one would have been slightly faster.

Rygar time again! This time it's the full warpless version. The most text below is copied from the warp-version. There are changes though. This is still one of my favourite childhood games. Since I started time attacking I've learned so much about this game. It's the most glitchfilled game I've ever played, timeattacking or not. I will warn everyone, much of this movie's time is in boring dialogue and walking around that must be done (actually, ALL of Chapter 4 falls into this category). And yes, you actually DO have to talk to all those people in villages. So, you can opt to skip these scenes or think of them as intermissions, whatever you want. I optimized them anyway, of course, but it doesn't make them any more fun. =( But when you enter dungeons, the game becomes quite entertaining to watch...

Actually, it's more like a little-known Japanese wire-action platformer (like Bionic Commando or Ninja Five-O) with a small but rabid fan following. And what an awesome movie it is: it demonstrates as many glitches of the game as possible. Some of the glitches save time radically, some save a little of time, and some don't save time at all but just look cool. It uses death as a shortcut, but in contrary to the usual, this death does not put Rygar backwards in the game, but instead warps him forward by a couple of le...

The driving and FPS levels are mostly autoscrolling, so to make them interesting I aimed to get 100% kills and 100% items. This goal was achieved in levels 1 and 4, but not in 10 and 11; I was able to do this in level 10 in version 1, but this time a few more (unhittable) enemies were added, which I could do nothing about. It's a rare 'one player controls both characters' movie. It looks cooler and is 10.45 seconds faster than the previous movie. The two main tasks in this game are to prevent the shooters from firing and to avoid ladders, which the character automatically will grab. The red guy's goal is to run forward. The blue guy's goal is to help the red guy run forward. Neither guy dies. In this game everyone runs around menacingly and bullets fly slower than a regular housecat runs.
